Real Madrid beat Real Sociedad to move four points clear at the top

Zinedine Zidane's side were too good for La Real to increase their lead over Barça & Sevilla

Real Madrid took advantage of slip ups from Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Sevilla this weekend as they beat Real Sociedad 3-0 on Sunday to move four points clear at the top of the table.

Not only do they have a handsome advantage over Barca and Sevilla -- who both have 42 points -- but they also have a game in hand over each of their nearest title rivals.

Mateo Kovacic, Cristiano Ronaldo and Alvaro Morata were all on target, while La Real ended the game with 10 men after Inigo Martinez was sent off after receiving a second booking.

Madrid had won just one of their last five games in all competitions and still have a number of players out injured.

Gareth Bale, Pepe, Marcelo, Dani Carvajal and Luka Modric are all sidelined but it didn’t stop Madrid easing to victory over a Real Sociedad side who are enjoying a good season.

Ronaldo -- who was jeered by home supporters in a low key first half -- set up the first goal, sliding in Kovacic, who slid the ball under Geronimo Rulli.

The Portuguese forward then added his name to the scoresheet when the roles were reversed after the break. Kovacic this time played the pass and Madrid’s No.7 finished with a cute chip.

Morata -- who’d come on for the jeered Karim Benzema -- then had a header ruled out for offside before Martinez received his marching orders when a rash challenge on Casemiro earned him a second booking.

Minutes later Morata did get his goal, heading home a Lucas Vazquez cross after a clinical Madrid break.

Ronaldo saw his second goal of the night chalked out in the 89th minute for offside but the damage was already done as Madrid stamped their authority on top spot in La Liga.
