The former Chelsea man didn't play a single minute while on international duty

Eden Hazard was not at the level expected in his first season at Real Madrid and has started his second campaign at the club has started on the wrong foot, too. According to AS, Madrid are annoyed by his attitude during the international break. They don't understand why he didn't return to his club early after not playing a single minute for Belgium.

Madrid did not want Hazard or goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois to join up with their national team this past week. However, they both did. Courtois returned on Friday, though, while Hazard remained with Belgium despite not playing a single minute in the UEFA Nations League wins over Denmark and Iceland.

In principle, Hazard hadn't planned to attend the call from Roberto Martinez. Modric and Odegaard both pulled out of Croatia and Norway squads respectively but Martinez convinced Hazard to stay and remain part of the group. Before the Denmark game, it was rumoured that he wouldn't play as a precaution but that he would feature vs. Iceland. In the end, he didn't play in either game, much to Madrid's anger.

Los Blancos thought he would return before the Iceland game, played on Tuesday, but that wasn't the case. He stayed with Belgium but didn't even warm up, spending the whole game on the bench again. In summary, Madrid don't understand why he's missed a week of preseason to not even feature for Belgium, especially after all the injury problems he had in his first year in Spain.
