Real Madrid 1-0 Getafe: Asensio strikes as Los Blancos win ahead of City clash
The Spanish and European champions beat their neighbours by a single goal
Real Madrid did not want to do Barcelona any favours. They saw off Getafe by applying the law of minimum effort, triumphing thanks to Marco Asensio's deflected left-footed shot, 70 minutes into the game. Los Blancos were unashamedly snoozing for the first 45 minutes, when they had their minds on the return leg of their Champions League clash against Manchester City, and did not wake from their slumber until Ancelotti activated his team with changes.
Toni Kroos came on at the break, Vinicius Junior and Luka Modric followed, and they did just enough to win, going second, at least until Atletico Madrid visit Elche on Sunday.
Barcelona will need to beat Espanyol now in any case to seal La Liga victory this weekend at the RCDE Stadium in Cornella.
