Partido correspondiente a la jornada 33 de LaLiga Santander disputado en el Alfredo di Stefano a puerta cerrada.
It was a tight match, especially in the first half, but was eventually settled in classic Madrid fashion - a Sergio Ramos penalty.
It was the defender’s fourth goal in six games since the season restarted, and the spot kick was awarded after Oliviera brought down Dani Carvajal in the box. There wasn’t much doubt about it this time, although earlier in the game the right back was guilty of a foul in his own area which went unpunished.
Vinicius Junior was denied by David Soria at one end, while Thibaut Courtois stretched to keep Nemanja Maksimovic out at the other.
Getafe were impressive, with Jaime Mata a particular threat, while Madrid failed to get going, despite Karim Benzema’s best efforts.
The second half was tighter but eventually Ramos struck from the spot after 79 minutes to settle it.
“We had to take advantage of Barcelona’s slip up against Atletico, for us this was a final,” said Carvajal. “Getafe made this hard for us, in the first half especially.
“We depend on ourselves, if we’re going to win this league or not, the message from the coach was clear, we had 11 games left and we’re going for 33 points.”
