England international Harry Kane scored the only goal of the game after a mistake by defender Marcelo set him up.
It could have been much worse for Madrid but for the heroics of Keylor Navas, who played in the absence of the injured Thibaut Courtois.
Following defeat to Bayern Munich and a draw with Arsenal, Madrid were thumped 7-3 by rivals Atletico Madrid in New York last week.
While it's only preseason, it's lifted the pressure on the club ahead of the new campaign and Zinedine Zidane's side could have done with a result against Spurs.
However, it wasn't to be, with the English side by far the better team. Kane grabbed the game's only goal but Spurs will feel they should have scored much more against a Madrid team struggling to find themselves.
