Real Madrid are missing a number of players for the game on Wednesday

Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos will miss Wednesday's Champions League opener against Shakhtar Donetsk with a knee injury sustained at the weekend.

Ramos has trained alone since Saturday and Madrid insist he will be fine for Saturday's Clasico at Camp Nou but he will not play in Europe this week.

Zinedine Zidane is also missing a number of other first-team players. Dani Carvajal, Álvaro Odriozola, Martin Odegaard, Eden Hazard and Mariano Díaz are all injured.

Madrid coach Zidane won't take any risks with Ramos, the club captain, with the game to come against Barcelona at the end of the week.

The squad for Shakhtar is: Courtois, Lunin, Diego Altube, Nacho, Militao, Varane, Marcelo, Mendy, Casemiro, Fede Valverde, Kroos, Modric, Isco, Lucas Vázquez, Marco Asensio, Vinicius, Rodrygo, Benzema & Jovic.
