The French club will join the race for the Danish midfielder in January

Real Madrid's hopes of signing Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen have been complicated. Los Blancos, in principle, wanted to sign him for free next summer, when his contract with the English side expires, but Paris Saint-Germain could force a different ending.

According to reports in Britain, the French club want to add the Danish midfielder to their midfield as they continue to strengthen with the hope of one day winning the Champions League.

Madrid chief Florentino Perez have followed Eriksen for a while and their interest led to the Spurs man turning down the chance to extend his terms in London.

Eriksen has the profile needed to help bolster Zinedine Zidane's team. They have been really short in midfield this season, especially in midfield. That was evident as they were beaten by Mallorca on Saturday.

However, they could now face competition from PSG. Whether that leads to a bidding war in January or a fight over the player next summer -- and perhaps a bigger contract offer -- time will tell.
