The Spanish forward is expected to move to Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent

What has been an open secret for the last few hours is now official: Marco Asensio is leaving Real Madrid after seven seasons at the club. The Mallorcan forward, whose contract expires on 30 June, has decided not to renew his deal and leave as a free agent.

The club announced: "We would like to express our gratitude and affection to Asensio, a player who has defended our badge and our shirt for seven seasons. He arrived at Real Madrid when he was just 20 years old and has managed to enter the history of our club as part of a team that has been part of one of our most successful eras."

Asensio decided to reject the club's proposal to renew his contract and will embark on a new adventure elsewhere. He asked for more minutes, Carlo Ancelotti has not been able to give them to him in this final stretch of the season and that is why he has opted to look for them elsewhere.

Everything suggests that he will sign for PSG on a free transfer on 1 July. The Premier League was tempting him, but it seems that the Parisian side will win the race for his signature. Asensio will play his last game in a Madrid shirt against Athletic this weekend. He will also say goodbye to the Santiago Bernabéu.

Asensio has been an important player in the seven seasons in which he has defended the shirt. He leaves Madrid with 17 titles: 3 European Cups, 4 Club World Cups, 3 European Super Cups, 3 Leagues, 1 Copa del Rey and 3 Spanish Super Cups.
