The midfielder hopes to lead a comeback against Manchester City on Wednesday

Real Madrid hope to turn their Champions League semifinal around against Manchester City on Wednesday after losing the first leg 4-3 last week.

Midfielder Luka Modric is eyeing a fifth Champions League final since joining the club and, after comebacks against PSG and Chelsea, has called for another historic night at the Santiago Bernabeu in the second leg.

"We are confident," he said in a press conference. "We believe we can turn the tie around. The first leg was not our best and even so we scored three goals. We have character, quality, history...

"This is the club with the most Champions League trophies and that influences things a lot. We know what we have to do every time we step on the pitch.

There are eight players in the Madrid squad with four Champions Leagues among their honours (Carvajal, Lucas Vázquez, Nacho, Marcelo, Casemiro, Modric, Isco, Bale and Benzema) and they are targeting their fifth final in nine season.

"It's an important aspect," Modric added. "It's nice to remember we have already won four and now we can reach another final. It's been four years since the last one, we have to focus on what awaits us on Wednesday. We are ready. We have trained well. We can't wait for the game to start."

Modric disputed the idea that luck has helped Madrid past PSG and Chelsea into the last four.

"Let people think what they want," he said. "To arrive here it's not just about luck. People say they don't know how we win. It's a little unfair and it makes us laugh. We don't care what people say on the outside. Beating big teams, winning finals, leagues... You do not do that without quality, character, faith and everything we have. That makes us great."
