Real Sociedad rocked Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu with Martin Odegaard scoring against his parent club as they were dumped out of the Copa del Rey in the quarter-finals.
Odegaard scored the opener and then Alexander Isak hit two, with another disallowed, as the Basques ran riot.
Marcelo pulled one back but Isak crossed for Mikel Marino to strike the fourth.
The game became crazy and after Vinicius had a goal disallowed Rodrygo scored, with Nacho adding another and Real Sociedad’s Andoni Gorosabel sent off for cynically fouling Vinicius.
“We tried but in the end we reacted too late, but we have to react like this, fighting,” said Madrid defender Marcelo.
“The first part was difficult, we had the ball but didn’t score. In the second half we gave everything but we couldn’t do it. It’s a pity but we still have two competitions to play for.
“We let in four goals at home and to overturn that is very difficult. We always have to win and when we don’t, it’s hard.”
Real Sociedad join Granada and Mirandes in the semi-final draw on Friday.
