The Red Devils need a centre-back and could move for the French defender

Man United are setting their sights on Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane, per the Daily Star.

The Frenchman is in his 10th season in Madrid and has a contract until 2022, so next summer will be crucial. Transfermarkt says Varane is worth 70 million euros, a high price, but United are in dire need of defensive reinforcement.

Varane, in 2017, said that he wanted to stay at Madrid and spoke about being a one club man, but the English media think he would be willing to go to the Premier League if he doesn't agree on a Real renewal.

He has one condition: United must be in the Champions League. He wants to play at the top level, so United must finish in the top four.

If Varane doesn't arrive, United will set their sights on a different target, also French. It's young defender Dayot Upamecano. He has a contract with Leipzig until 2023 after renewing this summer.

At just 21 he's one of the greatest young talents in world football and an international with his country. He has a 60m euro release clause which will dip to 40m euros next summer. Many sides want him. Including Madrid.
