Man United preparing 70m euro bid for Raphael Varane

The Madrid defender's contract expires in June 2022 so could be ready for a move

Raphael Varane’s contract renewal with Real Madrid is Florentino Perez’s next assignment, along with getting Sergio Ramos to stay.

Varane’s future is uncertain too, with his contract up in 2022, and his team-mate’s this year. There is no news yet on the Frenchman’s renewal.

If they don’t tie him down now they may have to sell him this summer - the last they can ask for a big fee in.

Manchester United are interested, having followed Varane for some time. After signing Maguire they want to further bolster their defence, which is their weak point.

The Daily Mail say Man United are ready to offer 70m euros for the centre back. If they don’t get him they will look elsewhere in La Liga - Villarreal’s Pau Torres, and Sevilla’s Jules Kounde.

Manchester United’s strongest competition for Varane will be Paris Saint Germain. He did not travel to Liverpool for the Champions League game tonight after being diagnosed with Coronavirus.
