Reports in the English press say Foden has been followed by Madrid for years

Real Madrid have emerged as a serious candidate to sign Manchester City and England midfielder Phil Foden.

Foden, 20, has been in and out of the City team under Pep Guardiola and the Sunday Mirror report that Madrid are monitoring his situation.

Madrid have been following the youngster for years and feel now could be a good time to make an offer as City fail to take full advantage of his qualities, always according to the English press.

Before the Newcastle United game this weekend, Foden had started just once in the Premier League since October, creating anguish for the player, who wants to play more.

Despite the lack of minutes, however, Guardiola has always taken good care of Foden, who he has brought into the first team set up at the club.

"We love this kid," the City coach said. "He has everything to be really special. I want the best for him and if he has the desire to do it, I am sure he will achieve it."
