Madrid defender Militao tests positive for coronavirus

The centre-back is out of the Champions League game against Inter Milan

Real Madrid have announced that defender Eder Militao has tested positive for coronavirus and will miss this week's decisive Champions League game against Inter Milan.

"Real Madrid C. F. would like to inform that our player, Eder Militao, has tested positive in the COVID-19 tests carried out yesterday, Sunday morning," the club said in a statement.

"All the other players and the technical staff from the first team, as well as all the employees of the club who work directly with them, tested negative in that same test.

"The club would like to confirm once again that everyone, with the exception of Militao, tested negative in the antigen tests carried out that same morning."

defensiVE PROBLEMS

The absence of Militao adds to Madrid's defensive problems, although they are still OK in the middle of the back four as Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane are both available.

However, Carvajal, Odriozola and Nacho are all injured, with Lucas Vazquez currently filling in at right-back, while Mendy and Marcelo are competing for the left-back spot.

Madrid have just one point from their first two games in the Champions League this season and need to beat Inter on Tuesday to revive their European campaign.
