The French coach says the Wales forward is happy at the club

Zinedine Zidane says Gareth Bale is not sad at Real Madrid despite finding himself out of the team in recent matches.

The Wales forward, a 2013 signing from Tottenham, started both Champions League games against Paris Saint-Germain on the bench.

However, Zidane says the player is not unhappy at the Santiago Bernabeu despite losing his place in the team.

"Theoretically Bale is not sad, not at all," Zidane said in a press conference on Saturday to preview this weekend's game against Girona.

"He is a different player, maybe, but he is not unhappy, he is with us, he is happy to be at this club, and has shown that he is an important player in this squad."

Madrid lost when they played at Girona earlier this season and Zidane says that's a testament to how competitive La Liga is.

"La Liga is very competitive," he added. "Here there are no small teams. They are all good teams who play good football.

"Girona are having a very good season. We saw what they did and what they are doing. But we always look at the details of the opponent, but the most important is what we do ourselves on the pitch.

"We have worked well this week and are looking forward to the game."
