He spoke about Sergio Ramos wanting to play and said that he was delighted with the win over Melilla

Real Madrid interim coach Santiago Solari was happy with his team’s performance as they beat Melilla 4-0 on his debut.

“I don’t like to give out grades but the team did really well. We played the game with joy and commitment and that was seen in the final score. I can’t ask for more because this is the road to follow.”

Solari did not want to talk about his future. He can only stay in charge for two weeks as an interim thanks to Spanish rules.

“The commitment is not mine, it’s to the shirt, with the institution, with the fans. Now I’m in with this group and we’re all together. We beat a good opponent, who played very well. We knew it would be a hard game.

“I come from the Segunda B and I know how hard it is. There are great teams and great coach in that category. The pitch was bad but the fans very good.”

On Sergio Ramos, Solari said the captain asked to come and play.

“Ramos wanted to play. It was a delicate moment and he’s the captain of this ship. He was important on the pitch for what he transmits to his team-mates.”
