Carlo Ancelotti gave a frank assessment of his side's chances after more dropped points

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti said that Sunday's 0-0 draw at the Benito Villamarin against Real Betis must affect the team because that is the only way to improve.

"It has to affect us, if it doesn't affect you, you don't improve," he said. "It's unusual for Madrid to (only) score one goal in three games. Just days ago we scored five at Anfield. So it has to affect us, it's normal."

He continued: "It was a difficult game. Especially because I think we could have done better in terms of attacking efficiency. We had chances. We came out well from the back, we looked between the lines, but we lacked a bit of efficiency.

"One more pass, one less cross... moments like that. That is the reality. We've only scored one goal in the last three games -- and from a set-piece. It's obvious what's missing."

Ancelotti insisted on the need to improve in the final third: "We have to be more effective. Opponents are closing down, but we have the quality to do better.

"We need to be more effective and have less dribbling, less... We need to be more decisive. We can shoot from outside (the box). We have to improve that, we know that."

He added: "We've lost a little bit of speed in transition, if we get the ball back, instead of going up quickly, we like to play it a little bit more. And there's room for improvement there as well.

"It's clear that we have difficulties, we have to improve them. For the first time now, we have a week to work (with no midweek game) and these aspects need to be improved."

Asked if it is still possible to win La Liga after falling nine points behind Barcelona, the Madrid coach appealed to mathematics: "Yes, it is possible. It's not impossible. So it is possible. Very difficult, very complicated. We have no doubt that we will fight until the end."
