Luka Modric could be banned for two matches after Celta red card

The report from referee Estrada Fernández said that the Croatian could not get the ball

On Wednesday the RFEF competition committee meets for the first time this season to analyse what happened at the weekend. One of the issues they must deal with is Luka Modric's red card, earned for a stamp on the Achilles tendon of Denis Suarez in Madrid's 3-1 win over Celta Vigo on Saturday.

Referee Estrada Fernandez wrote in his report that Modric "impacted with the studs on the Achilles zone without the chance of playing the ball" and that was why he was dismissed. That is an important caveat which means the midfielder could be hit with a two game ban.

By contrast, Jorge Molina, who was sent off for Getafe for the same foul on Atletico's Thomas Partey, "impacted with the studs on the Achilles zone of an opponent during a challenge for the ball." So his suspension could be lesser.
