Kiko Casilla now knows he's only going to play Copa games

The squad are not convinced Zidane has made the right decision in choosing Navas over the Catalan

Real Madrid have now decided how they will manage their goalkeeping situation and coach Zinedine Zidane has told the relevant parties what the plan is.

Save injuries, suspensions or any alarming dips in form, Keylor Navas will play in goal in the league and in Europe, while Kiko Casilla, just like last season, will be substitute. He will play Copa del Rey games.

Zidane explained in the preview to Tuesday’s game at Dortmund that the decision had been taken and that he’d spoke with both of his goalkeepers.

The French coach revealed to them both before travelling to Germany what he’d decided. The decision has caused a small amount of division in the dressing room.

Casilla had taken advantage of Navas’ injury and his performances had helped Madrid rise to the top of La Liga as he made saves which helped the side win points.

Despite that, Zidane feels Navas had a good season last time out and doesn’t see any reason to make a change which could generate doubts in the Madrid goal. He thinks the roles they both played last season should continue.

However, some of Madrid’s players aren’t sure about the Costa Rican’s form and some blamed him for one of the goals leaked against Borussia Dortmund.

Sergio Ramos and Cristiano Ronaldo were among the players who weren’t impressed. What’s more, Casilla is highly thought of in the dressing room and some team-mates feel his moment has arrived.

His ostracism under Zidane has seen him lose his place in the Spain squad and his progression stunted.

It’s possible that complaints among the players lead to a change of heart from Zidane before the visit of Eibar this weekend, as many feel Navas doesn’t deserve to start. We’ll have to see who prevails.
