Karim Benzema's message to Madrid that he will not renew
The Frenchman wants to finish his career at Lyon, the club he truly loves
Karim Benzema is the player Zinedine Zidane gave the keys to Real Madrid’s attack. The game is designed for him, for him to be the player who finishes the moves with no other forward around now to put him in the shade. He’s responded well but will not be around forever. The Frenchman has it in his head to end his career at Olympique Lyon, the club he came from and longs for.
Karim turned 33 and has a contract with Real Madrid until June 2022. His former agent and friend Karim Djaziri mentioned the players’s intentions. “In his dreams he’s returning to Lyon and doing big things. Wearing the captain’s armband with the kids around him could be magic,” he told Inside Goes.
Benzema has sent Madrid an indirect message that he does not want to renew.
“He talks to me all the time and he sees all the team’s games,” said Djaziri. “He’s divided between leaving the best club in the world and returning to Lyon, it’s a question of time.”
Benzema arrived at Madrid from Lyon in 2009-10. “He’s never been to the Groupama Stadium, it’s something he wants in his head, he has Lyon in his heart. There is everything in Lyon for Karim.”
