The French forward was given a year's jail sentence, suspended, and a fine

Karim Benzema has been found guilty in the Mathieu Valbuena sex tape blackmail case by a French court.

A judge issued a one year suspended jail sentence to Benzema for conspiracy to blackmail, ordering him to pay a 75,000 euro fine too.

The Real Madrid striker, 33, pressed Valbuena to pay those blackmailing him over the tape, in a case which goes back to 2015.

The judge said Benzema “implicated himself personally, through subterfuge and lies, to convince his teammate to submit to the blackmail.”

Benzema did not attend the trial in Versailles. His lawyers did, of course, and they were fuming.

"The reaction is ultimately an angry one to this judgment which is perfectly contradictory," his lawyer, Sylvain Cormier, told reporters.
