The Madrid president was asked about how it could affect La Liga

Perez was speaking in an extensive interview with El Español

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has spoken for the first time about the hypothetical absence of FC Barcelona in La Liga in the case of an independent Catalonia. Perez broke his silence on the issue in an interview with El Español.

Perez was asked where Barça should play if, one day, Catalonia earns independence: "I'm not contemplating a Spain without Catalonia or a La Liga without Barcelona. For that reason, I'm not able to answer something which I'm not even thinking about."

The Madrid president was also asked about whether Gerard Pique should continue to play for the national team -- and he once again gave a very diplomatic response.

"That's not for me to answer, but I think that the national team should be the players that feel the national team and are united -- I think that creates a good atmosphere," he said.

"And if I am being honest, in recent games that's what I have seen. We have qualified for Russia and what we must do is keep encouraging that atmosphere."
