Unai Emery, the Villarreal coach, spoke to COPE on Monday night with one of his former players, Paris Saint-Germain's Kylian Mbappe, on the agenda.
Mbappe is out of contract in Paris in 2022 and has been regularly linked with a move to Real Madrid. Emery says it would be his dream to move to the Santiago Bernabeu.
"When I was in Paris, Mbappe was really keen on coming to play for Real Madrid," Emery explained. "He liked Madrid and was fixed on the idea of playing there. He considers them the biggest club in the world.
"At that moment, I wanted him to stay at PSG because I was defending PSG's interests. He never told by directly, but I had a meeting with his father in which he told me they were thinking of (Madrid). It all came out in that conversation."
Emery added that "he (Mbappe) was seriously contemplating signing for Madrid," but pointed out the difficulty in getting out of Paris, using the example of Rabiot.
And the Villarreal boss added: "Now I am back in the Spanish league, I want the best players to be here."
