The differences between the New Camp Nou and the new Santiago Bernabeu

Both sides of the Clasico divide have unveiled plans to regenerate their current stadia

Real Madrid, like FC Barcelona, are getting to work on improving their stadium. The New Camp Nou has been 'brewing' for a while and the New Santiago Bernabeu was presented by Florentino Perez on Tuesday. Both projects present various important differences. Here are some of them:

THE BIRTH

Barcelona's General Commitment Assembly authorised the board to call a referendum to decide on the construction or remodeling of the current Camp Nou. It was born democratically. The New Santiago Bernabeu was born via the imposition of Florentino Perez: "Neither the investment nor the change of name need to be approved by the socios."

PROJECT

In both cases it's a matter of the remodeling of the grounds not affecting the sporting calendar, although in Barcelona's case it will be a more striking change, given the the more extensive changes being made, for example, to Tercera Gradería Lateral and Tribuna. In this sense, it will be a heightened experiment.

CAPACITY

While the New Camp Nou's capacity will rise from 98,772 to 105,000 spectators, the New Santiago Bernabeu will remain at 85,000.

FACADE

FC Barcelona's will be open, consisting of three rings with the roof sloping section. Real Madrid's, asymmetric and steel, will be resolved based on metal bands.

COST

Barcelona's project will cost around 600 million euros; Real Madrid's around 400 million euros. Barça will finance 200 million euros of credit, 200 million euros more will be from their own capital and the final 200 million euros will come from selling the naming rights. Real Madrid's backing for the project comes from investment Abu Dhabi-based IPIC (International Petroleum Investment Company).

WINNING STUDY

Both projects were tendered by means of an international competition. The FC Barcelona project was won by Nikken Sekkei and Joan Ramon Pascual i Arquitectes Ausió. Meanwhile, Real Madrid's was won by GMP Arckitekten - L35 Ribas.

WORK

Barcelona's idea is to begin the work at the end of the 2017-18 season. Real Madrid, meanwhile, are studying kicking things off next year, 2017.

VIDEO SCOREBOARD

The New Santiago Bernabeu will have a 360 degree video scoreboard. Barça's updated home won't have that.
