The Dutch midfielder is the backup option to Paul Pogba

Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek is being closely followed by Real Madrid according to 'De Telegraaf', above all if they are unable to sign Paul Pogba.

"Madrid are pressing more and more for Van de Beek," says the Dutch journalist Mike Verweij, before adding that "the only inconvenience for Ajax is that period for signings goes on until Sept. 1."

The reports say Madrid have never dropped their interest in Van de Beek, 22, as they look to strengthen their midfield this summer. Pogba's the first option but Manchester United want a huge fee.

Plan B, therefore, could become Plan A, with Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars admitting its tough for the club to keep their stars after already losing De Jong and De Ligt.

The fee for Dutch international Van de Beek is said to be around 60 million euros.
