Manchester Utd look set to pip Chelsea to the signing of Romelu Lukaku

Chelsea, therefore, will switch their attention to Madrid's Alvaro Morata

Chelsea have re-appeared in the chase for Real Madrid forward Alvaro Morata after Manchester United closed in on the signing of Everton's Romelu Lukaku.

According to various reports in England, Antonio Conte has now asked Roman Abramovich to make a move for Morata.

At the moment, Abramovich's Chelsea are said to be prepared to pay 80 million euros, an offer which United refused to put on the table when they were in talks with Madrid over Morata.

Despite the generous offer from Stamford Bridge, though, Madrid may try and hold out for more. They do not want to sell the striker and will hold out for 90 million euros.

Meanwhile, Real remain in the fight for Monaco's Kylian Mbappe, who they could sign this summer if and when Morata leaves the Bernabeu in search for regular football.
