The Roma forward explains how he got away from the Santiago Bernabeu this summer

Spanish striker Borja Mayoral spoke at his presentation with Roma and said that Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane wanted him to stay at the club. However his priority was to get to play.

"When I arrived for pre-season with Madrid, I was going to leave the club quickly but Zidane wanted me to stay. I told him that I had to leave to get more chances. I think the club listened to Zidane and that's why they wanted to get rid of Jovic," said Mayoral.

"Everything happened late, but in the end I phoned his office and asked him if he could let me leave. I thought I was going to have more chances to play and grow my game. In the end that happened, I'm here and that's the most important thing."

Mayoral, formed at Madrid's academy, won the Champions League in 2018 and the Club World Cup with the first team, now is on loan at Roma for two years with a 15m euro option to buy in 2021, and a 20m euro option in 2022.
