The Real Madrid striker has missed three games but is back in training

Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane had some good news on Friday as star striker Karim Benzema trained with his teammates ahead of Sunday's derby.

Save any late setbacks, Benzema is on track to make the matchday squad and could even start against league leaders Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitan.

A decision will be made as late as possible and will depend on how the French forward feels after the final preparation session at Valdebebas on Saturday.

Zidane is confident he will be available but has never been a coach to take risks. However, Madrid's title hopes could hinge on beating Atletico and for that reason Benzema, who's missed three games through injury, could be thrown in.

If he's not ready to start the game, Zidane's plans will have to change. He will have to play without a striker and strengthen the midfield, with Isco and Fede Valverde likely to get chances.
