The Italian coach was a target for Florentino Perez but he opted for Ancelotti in the end

Real Madrid’s dressing room vetoed the arrival of Antonio Conte, according to Duncan Castles on The Times’s Transfer Window podcast. Florentino Perez was negotiating with the Italian but various players were not happy about the idea.

Up to 10 players got in touch with the president to tell him they would go if Conte arrived. That led to the chief changing his mind and opting for Carlo Ancelotti.

Conte is a free man after leaving Inter Milan with the Series A title. The coach was interested in doing to the Spanish capital.

Back in 2018 when Conte was linked, Sergio Ramos was firmly against it.

“Respect is won, not imposed, management of the dressing room is more important than the knowledge of a coach,” he said.
