"One goal would have done it but it wasn't to be," the Croatian midfielder said

Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic bemoaned the lack of quality which evaded the Catalans as they were held to a goalless draw by Real Madrid on Wednesday.

Madrid had the better of the first half but Barca had chances through Jordi Alba, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez to win the game and move three points clear at the top of La Liga.

Instead, the goalless draw leaves both teams level on points at the top of the table with just one game to be played before the short winter break.

"We know all about these type of games, they're really hard work," Rakitic daid. "Real Madrid had chances in the first half. It was difficult, but we had several chances of our own after. One goal would have done it but it wasn't to be.

"It was difficult. We know how strong they are. Maybe we were just lacking that final pass or touch of quality to score. But I am happy and proud of the team's work."
