It's official! Paris Saint-Germain confirmed the departure of Lionel Messi on Saturday, hours before their last game of the season.

The Ligue 1 champions made the announcement with a statement in which they thanked the Argentine forward for his two seasons in Paris.

"After two seasons in the French capital, the relationship between Leo Messi and Paris Saint-Germain will come to an end at the end of the 2022-23 season," they said.

"The club would like to warmly thank the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner, who won a Champions Trophy and two French league titles wearing the Rouge & Bleu."

The statement also includes Leo's thanks to the club itself.

"Thanks to the club, the city of Paris and its inhabitants for these two years. I wish you all the best for the future," said Messi.

Nasser Al Khelaifi, president of Paris Saint-Germain, added: "I would like to thank Leo Messi for his two seasons in Paris.

"To see a seven-time Ballon d'Or winner in Rouge & Bleu and at the Parc des Princes, win two consecutive French championships and inspire our young players has been a pleasure.

"His contribution to Paris Saint-Germain and Ligue 1 cannot be underestimated and we wish Leo and his family all the best for the future."
