The ex-Barça forward's the first to ever register two assist hat-tricks in Ligue 1

Paris Saint-Germain's 6-1 win over Clermont had various stand-out performers. Neymar, for example, scored a hat-trick, as did Kylian Mbappe, who ended the game as captain and is now the top scorer in Ligue 1 this season with 20 goals.

And Lionel Messi also shone. The Argentina star set up three goals at the Stade Gabriel Montpied, taking his total this season to 13, one less than Mbappe (who tops the rankings) and becoming the first-ever play in the French league to register two-assist 'hat-tricks' in the same campaign.

The first time Messi managed it was on Nov. 28, 2021, when he led PSG to a 1-3 victory away at Saint-Etienne. Mauricio Pochettino's side came from behind that day, with Messi setting up two goals for Marquinhos and another for Angel di Maria.

Against Clermont, Messi once again played playmaker as PSG edged ever close to the league title, which they lost to Lille last season.
