England's top flight could return next month, like LaLiga, behind closed doors

The government in the United Kingdom have said professional sport can return in the country from June 1 -- as long as it is behind closed doors.

The Premier League, therefore, could restart next month -- with June 8 and June 12 the possible dates -- as the German league returns this weekend and LaLiga continue with plans to resume in June.

The government hopes to move into Step Two of the recovery from lockdown, “permitting cultural and sporting events to take place behind closed doors for broadcast while avoiding the risk of large-scale social contact,” the guidelines say.

In contrast to Spain and Germany, the Premier League are working on a plan for the remaining games to be played at neutral venues in the country due to fears about fans gathering outside of stadiums.

There is opposition to the plan from some teams in the league, so there's still a lot to be finalised, but the government announcement gives hops that the season can be completed.
