The Frenchman has been out of work since leaving Real Madrid

Former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane is the No.1 target to take over from Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea next season.

Recent results, including the 6-0 defeat to Manchester City at the weekend, have seen the Blues slip down the table and left Sarri's position in the balance.

The Sun reported on Wednesday that Zidane, on a year off after quitting Madrid, is Chelsea's first option in the event that Italian coach Sarri is fired.

According to the report, Chelsea have even begun negotiations with Zidane's people. They will try to play the Eden Hazard card -- the Belgian could either renew or move to Real Madrid this summer -- to convince him to accept their proposal.

Sarri, who went unbeaten in his first 12 games after replacing Conte, is now in a difficult place at Chelsea, who face City in the final of the League Cup next weekend.
