Man City revealed that the former Barça coach's mum died in Catalonia this week

Manchester City announced on Monday the death of coach Pep Guardiola's mother, Dolors Sala Carrio, after she contracted coronavirus.

The English team posted on Twitter to confirm the news. A statement said: "The Manchester City family are devastated to report the death today of Pep’s mother Dolors Sala Carrió in Manresa, Barcelona after contracting Corona Virus. She was 82-years-old.

"Everyone associated with the club sends their most heartfelt sympathy at this most distressing time to Pep, his family and all their friends."

Former Barcelona boss Guardiola, who took over at City in 2016, had made a €1 million contribution to Catalonia's fight against Covid-19 just last week.

According to the health ministry, the latest numbers out of Spain revealed over 135,000 positive tests for coronavirus, with more than 13,000 confirmed dead so far.
