The Spanish international's current contract runs out in June but United want to extend his stay at the club

According to English newspaper 'The Guardian', David De Gea is closer to signing a new deal at Manchester United.

The Spanish international is out of contract in June and would be free to sign for anybody else in January on a pre-contract agreement.

Negotiations haven't concluded just yet but there's hope at the English club that De Gea will extend his stay in Manchester.

It's been a tough year for De Gea as he's in danger of losing his place as Spain's number one and has endured a sticky patch of form domestically too. Most recently he was linked with a move to PSG although that seems less likely now Keylor Navas has joined the club.
