Aston Villa have signed the stopper from Arsenal for 21.5 million euros

A historic transfer in the Premier League. Not in the context of English football, where we've seen a number of huge deals, but in respect to Argentine football. Aston Villa have paid 21.5 million euros for Arsenal's Emiliano Martinez, making him the most expensive Argentine goalkeeper in history.

Martinez started the Community Shield for Arsenal, who beat Premier League winners Liverpool, but is in German goalkeeper Bend Leno's shadow at the Emirates. Therefore, Villa, who have just lost Pepe Reina and needed to strengthen, have decided to make a big outlay on the South American.

The transfer will also be celebrated in Avellaneda, given Independiente will make around 500,000 euros on the deal. They sold Martinez, now 28, to Arsenal in 2009 for 500,000 euros.
