The club and the player have mutually agreed to terminate his contract

Cristiano Ronaldo has left Manchester United with immediate effect after his explosive interview with Piers Morgan.

Ronaldo slammed the club and said he had no respect for coach Erik ten Hag, among other things, in the chat with Morgan last week.

United responded by saying they were looking into taking action against the Portuguese star.

Then, on Tuesday, the Premier League side confirmed Ronaldo would leave Old Trafford and not return after the World Cup.

"Cristiano Ronaldo is to leave Manchester United by mutual agreement, with immediate effect," the club confirmed.

"The club thanks him for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford."

Ronaldo rejoined United for a second spell at the club in 2021 having left in 2009 for Real Madrid.

Now 37, he will look for another club elsewhere as he comes into the final stages of his career.

First, though, he is focused on the World Cup with Portugal.
