The right-back returns to England after two-and-a-half years in Spain

Atletico Madrid right-back Kieran Trippier has left the club to join Newcastle United, the Premier League side confirmed on Friday.

"Newcastle United are delighted to confirm the signing of England full-back Kieran Trippier from Atlético Madrid for an undisclosed fee," a statement said.

"The 31-year-old has agreed terms on a two-and-a-half-year deal and becomes the first senior signing under the club's owners and head coach Eddie Howe."

Atletico hoped to keep hold of Trippier but the player expressed a desire to return to the United Kingdom and the club accepted.

Trippier joined the Rojiblancos from Tottenham in 2019 and helped them win the LaLiga title last season as an ever-present when available under Diego Simeone.

He began his career at Manchester City before joining Burnley, who he helped win promotion back to the Premier League before moving to Spurs.
