After the success of their first venue, Berta and Marcos have opened a new space on Passeig Sant Joan

The base and quality of the ingredients make the difference, the black truffle is top drawer

There is a formula which never fails. Berta Bernat and Marcos Armenteras knew it well. After 15 years non-stop in the hostel world they took two years off during which they decided to open their own restaurant.

Their experience in the world of gastronomy and many trips away formed the basis of a project in which they knew the basic premise would be: quality and simplicity. They went for pizza and the finest ingredients, to create a pizza bar, not a restaurant, with a small menu and shared tables. Parking Pizza was born two years ago in a small space on Calle Londres 98, which became a cult spot for pizza lovers in Barcelona. The success has seen them open a new spot, on Passeig Sant Joan 56, much larger - the space was an old car park, although the menu for pizzas is practically identical and there are also pasta options, spaghetti with tomato and pesto, and rigatoni with gorgonzola and mint.

The secret? "We knew we had to offer the best ingredients, like we like to be given. In the end you have to eat well, because you have to offer a good base, mozzarella of the highest quality etc, and put ingredients on the pizza in a discerning way," said Marcos. "The podium for the top three requests are the black truffle pizza with fontina, egg and parmesan, the margarita, and the stracciatella de burrata. They are authentic delicacies. Just like the five aperitivos, the salads and the icecream... the hazelnut scoop is divine.
