Two defensive errors complicate life for Barca, by a great deal

What should have been a night to start dreaming ended up in a nightmare. Barca could have gone top with a win over Granada at Camp Nou, moving a point ahead of Atletico and becoming clear title favourites.

Barca fans’ hope was huge. And multiplied in the 23rd minute when Leo Messi, always Leo Messi, put them ahead with an extraordinary combination with Antoine Griezmann. It was done. Nothing could spoil Barca’s party. But then…

Two big defensive errors allowed Granada to turn things around in under 15 minutes. Surprise. Disappointment. A big blow. A slip up, unexpected, at the worst moment possible. Barca, unfortunately, don’t depend on themselves to win La Liga now. It was lost five months ago, could have been in their hands here, but now they are in a dogfight.

Barca had merits in the first half, and could have extended their lead. The lack of accuracy was a big problem. Whoever says they don’t need a striker doesn’t know what they’re talking about. Ronald Koeman was so angry he was sent off. It showed the desperation of a Barca that fell behind and had no way to go back ahead. A Barca that thought they would sleep as leaders, but took a (potentially decisive) step backwards.

But you can’t throw in the towel yet. While there is life there is hope. In this crazy league anything can happen. There are five games to go. Five finals. Five dreams.
