This is Real Madrid: Don't look for an explanation

I've said and written it more than once, what Real Madrid do has no logic. It can't be understood in normal footballing parameters. The explanation goes beyond normal sporting understanding. It's not sport, it's magic, or witchcraft. Or luck. Or it could be consistency. Or faith. What Real Madrid are doing in the Champions League has nothing to do with talent. It's simply an incomprehensible capacity to overcome the most adverse situations. They did it against PSG, against Chelsea, at Man City in the first leg at the Etihad. And again last night at the Bernabeu. 1-0 down and two minutes later, with a Rodrygo brace, they were ahead. Into extra time, where the immense Bernabéu won Madrid the game with a penalty. Surreal. Madrid's epicness is winning games that seem lost and winning undeserved titles. That's why they have 13 Champions Leagues.

Madrid's 'heroicism' is enviable. As disappointing as it is to see great teams crumble at the Bernabéu. A stadium that went wild with Ancelotti's remontada. Now they are dreaming of the 14th. Even against Klopp's all-powerful Liverpool. They can do it. No doubt This is Madrid. Don’t ask for an explanation.

The Champions League is in debt to Guardiola. The best coach in the world has only won two, both with Barcelona. He deserves more as a coach and for now he has not won with Bayern in three seasons or Man City in four. Pep’s Barcelona was the best team in history. The 2009 sextuple is a record that will be hard to ever match. It was an unrepeatable side of players led by Lionel Messi, winning 14 trophies in four years and humiliating Madrid repeatedly, especially at the Bernabeu. That team was perfect and deserved at least one more Champions League. The complexity of the competition and some refereeing errors stopped Barca adding to it. With Bayern Pep didn’t get past the semis and with City he lost in last season’s final to Chelsea. So it’s been 10 years since he won it. One day justice will be done.
