The tragic inheritance left by Bartomeu exposed

Bartomeu left Barcelona on the brink of knock out. The last president and his board left the club in a triple crisis, sporting, economic and institutional. New CEO Ferran Reverter, in a brilliant speech, explained how bad it truly was. A lack of control, conscience and a lot of improvisation led Barca here. It remains to be seen with the 'forensic' analysis if there are crimes that could see people taken to court.

Beyond the numbers that highlight the tragic inheritance left (1.35bn in debt and a negative balance of 481m euros), what has come out is the awful method of management that put Barça in grave danger. Worse than inefficiency is a lack of responsibility. The sad sensation is that Bartomeu and his board played with Barça's future without caring about the consequences. They ruined the best club in the world.

Luckily, Laporta has a plan. With Reverter by his side - the best signing he has made - Barça can recover. And quickly. They say they can recover in four to five years and even sign a 'crack' next summer.

The route is clear. Bet on La Masia, the style, and high performance (talent plus physical preparation), a new Camp Nou that will generate more income, and new resources that will makd Barcelona not only sustainable but able to invest profits into new players. The new version of the virtuous cycle.
