Coronavirus has left the season up in the air. Football has stopped but the work goes on behind the scenes. Barcelona may not play again this season, which looks probable, and the club are focused on preparing a new sporting project for next season. The sporting directorate have done their work but now they will have more time to take decisions learning from their errors of the past and analysing the squad's weaknesses.
It will be the final season of president Josep Maria Bartomeu's mandate and they won't skimp on finances as they bid to end his presidency in the best way possible. Everything passes through signing one or two players who will go straight into the side. Attacking players that come in and can make a big difference: Lautaro Martinez and Neymar are the absolute priorities.
NOT MONEY FOR EVERYONE
The market is inflated when it comes to attackers and, presumably, Barça must choose how to tackle their desire to sign Lautaro or bring Neymar back. One is the future and the other is a top player capable of immediate impact. There are pros and cons against both and the negotiations for either player will be difficult. Neymar would help compete for titles from the off, while Lautaro could be Luis Suarez's replacement for a decade. It's a big decision that the club must make and that will have a response in the coming weeks. It seems one of the two will come.
