The club revealed their third kit this season and SPORT revealed the first strip next year

Barcelona’s shirt is big business. Like everything in the football world, unfortunately. Buying the new Champions League shirt, which has very little to do with the club’s traditional look, costs 155 euros in the club shop. If you want the name of a player on the back, 15 euros more. 170 euros total. A fifth on the month’s minimum salary, 950 euros. A small fortune. The league shirt is a little cheaper, 160 euros. And the kids version is given away, at 100 euros for the Champions League shirt and 85 for La Liga. Ahem. Like I said, a business.

There are no official numbers about what Barcelona make from shirt sales. It’s confidential information between the club and Nike. But it’s estimated that they get 45-50 million euros. Of which 80 per cent was generated by the shirt that Messi wore. Of every 10 sold, eight were Messi 10s.

SPORT revealed the club’s next kit for the 2022-23 east. It’s another different one. That’s a marketing strategy. Make very different kits to generate controversy, but people end up liking them.

The 22-23 kit is innovative and is linked to the Barcelona 92 Olympics, paying tribute to the best Games in history. A good homage.
