The team played with heart as they walloped Granada 5-3 in extra-time

The Copa might be the shortest road to a trophy, but it could also be the hardest and most intense. Barca needed extra-time again to reach the semi-finals, of a competition which it was clear against Granada, the players want to win. The victory could almost be called a miracle. It was based on conviction and absolute delivery. A miracle fruit of the need to win a title after a year and a half without. A miracle personalised by Griezmann who at last had his magic night, with two goals and an assist. Barca were dead in the 88th minute but forced extra-time and smashed Granda after that. Not without some suffering, including an unjust penalty award against them. And with historic final goals from De Jong and Alba (the night’s other big hero).

Barca are building themselves through victories. And wins like these reinforce Koeman’s project. They still have a lot of defensive weaknesses but one great strength: their commitment to the badge.

A commitment which the coach, without doubt, has known how to foster in his players.

In other circumstances, the 2-0 scoreline would have been game over, but this new Barca took it as a stimulus. They fought back to keep dreaming of a cup which seemed easy but feels like climbing Everest. This team now plays with heart.
