Ousmane Dembele was not signed on a whim, nor because he was the only option in the final weeks of a transfer market conditioned by Neymar's sale. The France forward was always on the table after being backed by a number of people at the club, people who didn't panic when the price went about 100 million euros.

Barça wanted Dembele whatever, convinced that it was an error not to sign him earlier -- they tried to bring him in when he was at Rennes. His progression has been incredible in the last three seasons and everything suggests he will become a great. But it won't be easy.

That's because Dembele arrived with the added pressure of being Barça's most expensive ever signing, until Philippe Coutinho joined. That pressure ended up affecting a kid of just 20 years in a physical sense. But neither coach Ernesto Valverde nor the club have any doubts.

Maybe Dembele will miss one year of acclimatisation but the club are convinced he's a rough diamond and they will give him time to show that. Playing with Messi, Coutinho and Suarez can only improve him. And games like the one against Las Palmas are key for his growth within the dressing room.

Barça, considering what they have paid, will have all the patience in the world... even though they're signing Antoine Griezmann this summer.
