A love letter to Camp Nou on a special day for Barca

A love letter to Camp Nou on a special day for Barca

J.Mª Casanovas
| VALENTÍ ENRICH

This is a love letter to my beloved Camp Nou that comes from the heart. I write with feelings running high, thinking of the emotions we will experience this afternoon. We will know a deep sadness when the lights go out in the mythical stadium forever. We will suffer an emotional trauma. Nostalgia will take hold of us.

We will remember matches lived with passion, shared joys, heartfelt disappointments. It will be the end of an important chapter in our lives. We will close our eyes and unforgettable moments will appear, our hearts will beat with experiences that left their mark. Everyone has a special memory.

My historical memory will relive the first time I went to the stadium, hand in hand with my father on the opening day, 24 September 1957. I was ten years old and that marked my life. That day I discovered that I wanted to be a journalist. It was an inspiration that illuminated my future. Since then, the Camp Nou has been my second home, a place of work, happiness and prosperity.

Today is a day of intersecting stories, memories and experiences. Imagination brings us an emotional flashback that makes us feel part of Barça's history. From Kubala to Messi via Cruyff and so many players who gave us afternoons of glory. We will always be indebted to them.

Our brain suddenly becomes a commemorative video. Without forgetting the proximity factor, my first membership card, the seat in the stands, the friends and family members with whom we shared magical moments. Dear and beloved Camp Nou, you will always be part of my sporting family.

In the 66 years of its history, the Camp Nou has been the scene of the great transformation that football has undergone, a profound change, a total metamorphosis. When the stadium was inaugurated, football was a sport whose most representative image was Ladislao Kubala. In 1973, when Johan Cruyff was signed, football entered a new phase, it began to be a spectacle of global dimension thanks to television. And in the last twenty years, with the Messi phenomenon, the arrival of petrodollars and investment funds, football has become a business that is less and less about sport and more and more about entertainment.

If Barça wants to return to being a world reference club, there is no other way out than reconstruction, which will begin immediately. It is the law of life, transform or die. This letter of nostalgia and memories must end with a hymn to hope, all the sacrifices to come will serve to return to having the best stadium in the world.

Today we say goodbye to the old and beloved Camp Nou with the certainty that soon we will once again have a football temple that will be a source of pride for Barcelona fans.

BUSQUETS' MIRROR

Nobody has won as many titles as he has. Nobody has enjoyed playing football so much for the club of his love. Nobody has been so discreet and professional. Busquets leaves as a great, an outstanding person and footballer, at the same level as Xavi and Iniesta.

He is the mirror in which the youth players who aspire to make it to the first team should look at themselves. Humility, hard work and performance have been his magic formula. Today he deserves a great tribute.

THE FUTURE OF JORDI ALBA

It is not easy to say goodbye to Barça when you have one year left on your contract and you want to play. Alba has made a difficult decision with the good fortune that he has let himself be led more by his head than by his heart. He wants to continue playing but he knew that it would be difficult for him here.

The illusion of being able to continue his career alongside Messi and Busquets in Saudi Arabia has been decisive. A new future is opening up for him in the country of petrodollars alongside his great friend Leo.
