His performacnes during the tournament and his image as a diver and playactor have drawn him a lot of criticism from his own country and internationally.
It would be unjust to blame just one player for Brazil's exit but the truth is that since he left Barca the Brazilian has not been able to claim the protagonism that he wanted away from the shadow of Messi and Ronaldo. First at PSG, where his injury in February ruled him out of the rest of the Champions League, and then in Russia.
Neymar published an Instagram photo, saying that Brazil's elimination was "the most difficult moment of his career" and that "it's hard to find the strength to return to playing football".
