The Brazilian's foul mouthed Instagram rant could land him in trouble

Neymar could face punishment for criticising the referee and VAR after Paris Saint-Germain were knocked out of the Champions League on Wednesday.

A last minute penalty awarded to Manchester United via VAR sent the English side through at the expense of the French champions.

After the game, Neymar ranted about the decision on Instagram, going on strongly on referee Skomina and VAR.

"This is a disgrace," he wrote. "They put four people that know nothing about football in charge of looking at the replay for VAR. There is no penalty. How can it be a handball when it hits his back! Go fuck yourselves!”

The post could cost the Brazilian. UEFA could decide to open a case against him based on Article 11 of their Disciplinary Code, which talks of "insults or any other conduct that violates the basic rules of conduct."

The usual scenario would be that it is discussed at the next meeting, which is scheduled for March 28. We would then learn of possible punishments, which could be a ban between one and three games.

It's going to be key how they consider his Instagram comments. If they consider them as anti-sporting conduct or as abusive and insulting language towards an official.
